Pregame games
The pregame is the time at home before going out: not much time, lots of people and everyone wanting the night to start well. The best pregame games are quick, need no setup and get the whole room going in five minutes.
What makes a good pregame game
- One-sentence rules. Nobody wants to read instructions while people are still arriving.
- People can drop in and out. At a pregame someone is always arriving late or getting ice.
- It’s short. You need to be able to stop the moment it’s time to leave.
- The whole group plays. Mini-games everyone joins beat long one-at-a-time turns.
Games that work at a pregame
- Waterfall
- Everyone drinks in order and nobody stops until the person before them does. One minute long, wakes everyone up.
- Make a Rule
- Someone makes up a rule for the night (“no saying names”). Break it and you drink. Keeps going all the way to the club.
- Medusa
- Everyone looks down; on three, look at someone. If two people lock eyes, they both drink.
- Heaven
- Whoever holds the power raises a hand whenever they like and the last to copy drinks. It lasts until another Heaven card comes up.
A pregame with nothing to prepare
If you don’t want to think about what to play, Desfasa2 has it covered: every card is a pregame mini-game, the app keeps track of turns and you can stop the moment it’s time to go. And when it’s hot out, the Summer Edition brings games like High Tide and Surfer.
